Cranberry Cinnamon Energy Balls

Quick, easy, and nutrient-dense, these cranberry cinnamon energy balls are not only easy to make but also a perfect grab-and-go snack because they are packed full of nutrients to keep your hunger at bay.

Why do I love them?

Try as I might, I can’t keep these energy balls in the fridge long before they disappear! My family loves grabbing one or two for a quick snack or packing them in their lunch bags for school. There are so many reasons why I am happy to keep making them each week.

They are an excellent source of fibre

Each delicious ball contains 3.7 grams of fibre. We need between 25 and 38 grams of fibre every day, but many of us just aren’t getting enough. According to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada, most Canadians are only getting an average of 14 grams of fibre each day.

Fibre is essential for heart health, blood sugar regulation, weight management, gut health, and regularity. I go into more detail about what fibre is and all its amazing benefits to our overall health in my post: What’s the Big Deal About Fibre?

Full of healthy fats

Both flax and pumpkin seeds contain unsaturated fats such as omega 3 and 6.

Unsaturated fats, which are liquid at room temperature, are a beneficial source of dietary fat that helps support cardiovascular health and healthy cell development. They are also necessary for the absorption of vitamins A, D, E, and K.

Great source of protein

Each of these energy balls has an unbelievable 5 grams of plant-based protein! While most of us already know that protein is necessary for building and maintaining muscles, there is so much more that it is used for.

Protein plays an important role in cell functioning and repair, the immune response, hormone regulation, and more. Protein can also help keep us fuller for longer after eating a snack or meal because it slows down digestion.

They are allergen-free

These energy balls are free from the most common allergens (nuts, soy, dairy, eggs, sesame, wheat), making them a safe lunchbox option for school and daycare.

Enjoy!
